Thesis now published

A limited version of the full thesis “No Animal Left Behind: A critical evaluation of the companion animal disaster management framework in New Zealand” has now been published by Dr Stephen Glassey.

The PhD by publication was examined by international experts including Dr Sebestian Heath (the world’s pioneering scholar in the animal disaster management), Dr Rebecca Husted (world leading author on large animal rescue) and Dr Leanne Proops (a respected academic from the University of Portsmouth).

After over a decade of research, including studies conducted in Edgecumbe through to Texas, my thesis embodies the current best practices for animal disaster management worldwide, and provides recommendations to create animal-inclusive resilient communities

The PhD contains an overarching thesis to synthesize Dr Steve’s works which span over 10 years making him New Zealand’s own pioneer in animal disaster management practice and research. The PhD with a limited number of publications is now available to download for free, or a hard copy can be purchased online.

To have Dr Sebastian Heath, the world’s most highly acclaimed expert in animal disaster management examine my thesis and to say my work was “inspirational” and significant adds to the subject’s body of knowledge makes my research one of my life’s greatest achievements.

Thank you to everyone, in particular the residents of Edgecumbe who shared their often traumatic experience of the 2017 flood event, in particular the many who lost their pets under difficult circumstances both during and following the disaster. Kia kaha.
